TennisPro

TennisPro magazine was the internal, member publication of the U.S. Professional Tennis Registry, an international, non-profit trade association of tennis teachers and coaches.

I was hired to completely overhaul the magazine and was responsible (with no staff) for all aspects of the magazine's operations.

In the early 1990s, desktop publishing was still in its nascent stages, and I was able to significantly reduce costs and give the magazine its first-ever profit, in part by taking advantage of this new technology.

My responsibilities included:

*Writing 90 percent of the editorial and editing 100 percent.
*Laying out the magazine and as much as 50 percent of the ads.
*Creating and executing the media kit and sales materials and selling all ads.
*Working with pre-press and print vendors.
*Creating and analyzing annual readership surveys.
*Directing the management of the magazine's database and managing circulation.
*Handling all budgets, ledgers, invoicing, etc.
*Representing the magazine at trade shows.

My accomplishments included:

*Re-positioning the magazine as an industry-wide trade, available (through qualified circulation) to tennis teachers and ..coaches throughout the U.S.
*Moved the magazine from an expense to the association to its first profit in the magazine's history.
*Brought industry experts and celebrities into the magazine's editorial and earned the magazine recognition as the top tennis-teaching magazine worldwide.
